EMS Systems Act - Act 37

The passing of the new EMS system act, Act 37, will take effect over the next several years. There are some components that went into effect on August 18, 2009, when Governor Rendell signed the Act. Other components take effect February 1, 2010. A majority of the new Act will take effect February 2012, once the rules and regulations are approved and implemented.

Beginning this coming Spring, draft copies of the rules and regulations will be discussed during statewide town hall meetings. EMMCO West has been advised that at Symposium 2010, a town hall meeting will be conducted by the Bureau of EMS Director, Joseph Schmider.

During October through December, EMMCO West will be conducting town hall meetings to orient EMS stakeholders to the new EMS Act. The EMS act can be downloaded by clicking here.

EMS SYSTEMS ACT 37 SIGNED 8/18/09

The revised EMS Systems Act was signed by Governor Edward Rendell. Act 37 will be phased in over the next 2 years.

Dr. Brian Risavi, DO, EMMCO West Regional Medical Director, RMAC, and the EMMCO West Board of Directors have released a resource guideline to assist medical command physicians determine the care and transport of STEMI and Stroke patients in the EMMCO West region.

Photo Id's & Signatures can now be imprinted onto PA Department of Health Id Cards. Beginning September 15, 2008, EMS personnel can come to the EMMCO West Office between 8 - 4:30 PM Mon - Friday to have their photo id and signatures imprinted onto a new certification card. No appointment is necessary. EMMCO West will have the photo id and signature processing at different regional events. Personnel will need a copy of their EMS certification, current CPR, and a form of other photo id (drivers license, passport, school id, work id).

The Bureau of Emergency Medical Services is pleased to announce that the Department has centralized registration for the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Learning Management System (LMS) effective immediately.

If someone needs to register for the LMS, please guide them to the following web link www.health.state.pa.us/lms and follow the instructions for registration by clicking on the link for Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The LMS is an Internet-based system for educational programs and information sharing. The purpose is to allow persons to complete education and share information in the convenience of their home or workplace. Authorized individuals have unlimited access to the LMS and the content supplied on the LMS from any location that has Internet access by providing their assigned UserID and Password.

Once registered, the user will receive a user name and password by email and they may log onto the site at www.pahealthinfo.net to begin taking education courses.
