About EMMCO West
Emergency Medical Management Cooperative (EMMCO West, Inc.) is a non-profit regional EMS council that has been serving Northwestern Pennsylvania since its incorporation in 1983 and the commencement of operations in 1984. Initially, the regional EMS council covered 14 counties, but the area was later divided into two separate regions: EMMCO East and EMMCO West.
Through a contractual agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, EMMCO West is responsible for the oversight and coordination of emergency medical services (EMS) in seven Northwestern Pennsylvania counties:
- Clarion
- Crawford
- Erie
- Forest
- Mercer
- Venango
- Warren
Corporate Reorganization & Governance
On July 1, 2004, EMMCO West, Inc. restructured its corporate governance to diversify its Board of Directors and strengthen its representation across various EMS and healthcare sectors. The board now consists of 24 members, including:
- Representatives from 12 Northwestern PA hospitals (emergency department directors, physicians, RNs, and administrators)
- EMS representatives from each county
- Emergency Management Agency (EMA) directors
- EMS instructors, EMTs, paramedics, and ambulance administrators
- Representatives from the American Red Cross, Agricultural Extension Office, and Active Aging
- Members from both volunteer and career EMS services
The board convenes quarterly in September, December, March, and June. Subcommittees focus on key operational areas, including:
- Regional Medical Advisory
- Communications
- Quality Improvement
- Transportation
Public Meetings
